AmiKit as OS4 replacement

Hi, just wondering if AmiKit could be used as a true replacement for AmigaOS4 ?

AmiKit has all classic and some new amiga software, plus all modern software with RabbitHole.

Using a OS4 window theme/mouse cursor/icons/wallpaper/dock, makes AmiKit itself and the modern programs in Rabbithole, look like OS4 anyway.

I mean, OS4 does not seem to get a lot of love or attention from developers, it seems stuck, left behind the OS3.1.4 or OS3.2 versions.

All OS4 does to access modern programs is using AmiCygnix to launch Linux programs with a OS4 window theme...(just use Rabbithole for the same experience)

Demanding 3D apps/games in AmiKit could just be launched with Rabbithole using the linux/windows/mac/steam version of the same amiga game/program and with a OS4 theme,
so theres almost no need for powerfull modern 3D inside AmiKit itself.

AmiKit can boot directly to amiga workbench on linux, windows, mac, and boot image can be changed to AmigaOS4 image/look, so the host system is never seen, so it feels like an amiga booting.

(Also changing the mouse settings to MagicMouse in WinUAE, gives an almost perfect experience of using a complete amiga, even when switching between amiga programs on the workbench and modern rabbithole programs )

I know there a OS4 exclusive amiga programs in the works, but 99% of what OS4 is can be done just as good with AmiKit in my understanding.

So if you crave the OS4 amiga experience, just modify your AmiKit and Rabbithole to do what OS4 does.

Your own "AmiKit OS4" is possible using an 11 year old pc bought for less than 100 dollars, maybe put inside a used "X5000 look-a-like case", with a white spraypainted boingball logo on the side of the black desktopcase, with an amiga mouse (like the A500mini usb laser tank mouse available in 2022), and a amiga keyboard using a pc adapter.

It will still be much much cheaper than buying a real X5000/X1000 to use OS4...

(I have nothing against the real AmigaOS4...)

Well, just a quick answer - it's like 20 years ago when people were mostly using real 68k Amiga while emulation was a big no no. Now the emulation is a standard thing.

Same way some people will prefer real PowerPC processor more than anything else. Well, I would prefer it also if I already paid so much money for it ;)

Would be great to have the RabbitHole with AOS4. Pity i am not wise enough to implement winlaunch to Amiga OS 4.x

Well, I am not actually sure whether winlaunch works on OS4. Probably a specific OS4 version of it is needed.

So I assure You it doesnt exist. I was trying number of times. And Yes specific version is needed. I do not expect AmiKit would do that. Its not those job really. Also do not know really what AmiKit done for Amiga World except introducing RabbitHole. I dont wannabe nasty. All good but just wondering. Maybe Jan will explain please. Why we can have Rabbit Hole only with AOS3? Maybe I should direct that question to Toni? Please explain that. Im sorry. I dont know many things and would like to know. Best regards to everyone

No prob, let me explain.

First of all, there's no AmiKit for OS4.

There is AmiKit for OS3. It includes TONS of enhancements so OS3+AmiKit actually feels like a completely new OS. In fact, AmiKit breathed a new life into old AmigaOS and that is the main thing that AmiKit really done for Amiga World. The RabbitHole is one of the (rather small) side effects of the whole thing.

And then there is FlowerPot for OS4. It has no ambition of enhancing anything. FlowerPot just makes it MUCH more easier to install OS4 on your Windows, Mac or Linux. That's it. Nothing more. Any further enhancements of OS4 are up to you.

I understand it. Just wondering winlaunch. For all i assume AmiKit customers is fine. Same for me. I could learn many things which i apreciate and im thankful for that. Maybe you misunderstand what i thought. So im sorry for that. Anyway FlowerPot doesnt have RabbitHole implemented. Does make much easier for many people to install AOS anyway as you said I agree.
Since i have AmiKit i managed to have AmiLaptop. Im over the moon Many people wish to have that stuff many also do not have so much time to do that on they own. Maybe AmiKit should consider to sell it? Just wondering about my own businness lol

Oh yeah, an Amiga Laptop... we tried... https://file.amiga.sk/amikit/misc/News_Release_ALICE.pdf ...and failed. Seems the Amiga market is too small for big projects.
Btw. winlaunch is not program of mine. You will find it on Aminet: http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/winlaunch
