Appears the clock launches from modules/stdclock.tool - is there a pref file to change it from the 24-hour format to a 12-hour am/pm format?

I just checked and I am afraid there's no such option.
But you can disable the taskbar clock and enable LimpidClock digital clock instead (in the calendar tool located in the upper right corner of the AmiKit desktop).
