This is a problem I experienced with both AmigaForever and AmiKit:

* I first installed WinUAE
* Changed the default folders from the typical shared folders place, to somwhere in the WinUAE folder

Result with neither AF or AmiKit worked like expected after install without me tweaking a little first.

This should either be fixed to be more flexible, or mentioned during install or in documentation.

Like I already explained in this post, the problem is in WinUAE 1.4.3 (and some earlier versions too) that contains a data path bug. Copy WinUAE 1.4.4 beta 1 into your installed WinUAE folder and everything should work fine.

In future AmiKit versions the automatic use of the newer WinUAE version found on user's system will be disabled. The internal version will be always used to prevent such a problems.
