EDIT: Since AmiKit 1.4.0 it is possible to disable DirOpus Magellan automatically. Use the MorpheuZ program located on your desktop.
AmiKit is fully adapted to DirOpus Magellan which is used as a Workbench replacement. You will miss lot of usefull features if you switch back to classic Workbench...
Before you do so, I recommend to read Knowledge Base
to get a brief idea how to work with DirOpus Magellan. Review of Directory Opus Magellan II can be found in Total Amiga 2
magazine, page 22. Tutorials are in Total Amiga 10
(page 40) and Total Amiga 11
In addition, if you press HELP key (PageDown on PC keyboard) the DirOpus Magellan guide appears! Try to press this key in various circumstances, you always get the help related to your current situation. For example, open DirOpus settings window (press the right mouse button -> Settings -> Enviroment) and press the PageDown key. The guide opens where you find a description of these settings...
Anyway, if you really want to use Wokbench instead of DirOpus Magellan, here's quick guide how to do that:
Click the boingball located at taskbar -> Tools -> System -> Startup-Sequence. At the bottom of the text, there are two commands:
Put ";" in front of the LoadDB and remove ";" from the LoadWB so the commands look like this:
Save the file! (please ignore the microgolded message "cannot delete file". This is due to WinUAE filesystem incompatibility. Your edited file will be saved anyway...)
Since the AmiKit is adjusted to DirOpus Magellan, lot of files are opened through "dopus_dclick" tool that helps to open the file with appropriate application. This won't work with Workbench anymore! To fix this quickly (instead of editing each of the files separately), open the MCPPrefs program (click the boingball located at taskbar -> Preferences -> MCPPrefs), then switch to "Patches" list and ENABLE "ToolAlias" patch. Click EDIT and add this entry (by clicking the NEW button) to the left input rectangle:
press ENTER and add this one to the right input rectangle:
and press ENTER. Do not forget to SAVE the settings! Wait for few seconds and reboot your AmiKit. Then check the behaviour, eg. doubleclick AmiKit:Utilities/AmigaAmp/AmigaAmp.doc icon. If it opens, everything is OK, otherwise check the MCPPrefs again.
