Instalation experience on Real Amiga 1200

This is my experience with AmiKit installation on a Real Amiga 1200 with ACA1230-28.
Add some issues after install time but i managed to install this OS

An Installation progress bar at startup should be very appreciated.

After install, the machine kept asking me for Amikit location.
Them, finally, I discovered that the OS: boot partitions should be called "AmiKit" to make it Work, and it did!
This OS is slow has hell!!!
But I think that there is much from for improvement here :
The main applications shouldn’t start automatically there should be some icons to start them manually.
No wallpapers should be set at default only a solid background color. On desktop and windows.
I also add some graphical issues very low res selected at startup with 4 colors.
The graphical options are different from the previous WB and also a bit buggy, It should at least supported the previous graphical settings for AGA.
Then at a certain point, I lost all system fonts, someone knows how to fix this ?
Serious Work is needed here, but good effort! 

Hi Bruno and thank you very much for your interest in AmiKit and especially for your feedback. It's much appreciated as it allows us to make the software better and better.

Please note that "AmiKit for real Amiga" is an unofficial conversion and it is not developed by us. Even though Retrofan, the author of this conversion, is a member of this forum, to make sure this feedback reaches him please post it to the specialised Support Forum for "Real AmiKit" here:

Thank you!

Yes, bgsjust it will be slow for an 030/28, but as you say you can configure it to run a bit faster. I won't change the default settings to be used for a low end Amiga the same way that I don't enable some programs in the WBStartup that need a fast CPU, I use an average configuration. Of course it isn't thought in using 4 colors only, not even 8, but in fact you could try with 8. You should explain what graphical options are different from the previous WB and where do you have any problem (maybe you are talking about using Magellan instead of WB?), but better if you use the right place, as the support of AmiKit Real is on EAB, here

It boots and runs right with 4 colors too, so I don't know what do you say about the screen "very low res selected at startup with 4 colors.". If you think that it was set as default by AmiKit, remember that the screen mode it uses when booting is the one you were using on your OS3.9 BB2, so it only can be you that set up 4 colors and whatever screen mode.

To change the background you have to make a right click on screen, Settings, Environment, Background. But it would be better if you install Copper-Demon and you use it for windows at least. I'm planning to add it to a next update.

You could recover all the fonts taking them from OS3.9 and adding the ones of the complete AmiKit Real install.
If you use Workbench instead of Magellan it will be a bit faster too. You just have to click on MorpheuZ (in Amidock, in the StartMenu on the Tittle bar in Applications, or also in AmiKit:Prefs/Presets/AmiKit/MorpheuZ and select to Change Environment.

Thanks for asking.

Bruno I also look for betatesters. If you want to try some ideas I will be glad to send you some beta to try. Just register at EAB and send me a PM, but if you like you can also send me an email to
This afternoon I've been trying with copper demon and I've got some nice preferences to use/try, and also an improved s-s that needs to be tried for real. I'm very glad for your question, as it has made me try new possibilites
If you see (WinUAE, none RTG expansion), even using less cpu (I must see) it makes some of the menus look like transparent.

Also you are using an ACA. Have you edited the s-s and the user-startup to have full use of it? After installing ACATune (you can make that with MorpheuZ, did you?) there are some instructions in the user-startup to make a "hole" through MMU to make it detectable and have some speedup.

My slowest miggy has an ACA 31/42 and I don't find it very slow with wallpapers and windows backdrops, and now I don't remember but if you watch the video I am using at least 64 colors.........
